Welcome to www.sohorep.org, the official website of the Soho Repertory Theatre (our “Site”)! We may refer to ourselves, on this page, as: “Soho Rep.,” “we,” “our,” or “us.”
We understand privacy online is important to users of our Site. This Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) describes the personally identifiable information (“PII”) Soho Rep collects through the Site, how Soho Rep uses that PII, and the rights of individuals to control use of their PII under the laws applicable to them. Please read this carefully before using the Site.
1. PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION
PII refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person; an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data (e.g., address), an online identifier (e.g., user name) or to other factors specific to that person. Examples of PII include, but are not limited to: name, address, phone number, and email address. PII does not include information that is collected anonymously or rendered anonymous through further processing (e.g., aggregated data).
2. WHAT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION IS COLLECTED?
When you use the Site, information may be collected about you and your use of the Site in a variety of ways. First, Soho Rep collects information that users provide us directly, such as:
- Account Registration Information. Information provided by a user when registering for an account on the Site. If you choose to register, you must provide your name and email address, with the option of providing your postal address and phone number, so that, for example, we can maintain your user account and notify you of new content and shows.
- Transaction Information. Information relating to donations or tickets and other merchandise purchased on the website is collected by us and our payment processor. We may collect payment information, such as your credit card number, expiration date, and your billing address, where appropriate to provide payment processing services (including collection of credit card or other payment numbers).
- Other Submissions. Other information submitted by users, such as information related to our communications, like grant letters, award letters, or exchanges related to fundraising.
Soho Rep collects some information automatically, including through cookies and similar tracking technologies, when users use the Site. For example, we track information on how you get to the Site, the pages you view, and other information about your browsing behavior on the Site. Data collected also includes browser type and operating system, IP address and/or other device IDs, geolocation data, and time of access/viewing/downloading.
Without this information, we are not able to provide you with all the requested services, and any differences in services are related to your information.
We may aggregate or de-identify the information described above. Aggregated or de-identified data is not subject to this Privacy Policy.
3. HOW DOES SOHO REP USE AND DISCLOSE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION?
Soho Rep uses PII to operate its business and provide the services you request, including:
- Providing you with the products, services, and other materials you request, including processing your donation or ticket order and opening and maintaining user accounts that allow access to services provided by Soho Rep;
- Sending you correspondence as part of our direct and electronic mailing lists in order to market Soho Rep productions, shows, and merchandise, as well as to promote our partner theatres, special activities, events and tours; we may also contact you to inform you of cancelled performances.
- Engaging in internal, promotional, and fundraising activities, including by direct mail, e-mail, and other forms of communication.
- Improving and customizing existing products and services;
- Developing new products and services;
- Assisting users with use of products and services; and
- Protecting the Site and Site users, by helping to detect, prevent and respond to fraud, abuse, security risks, and technical issues, and to otherwise comply with applicable law.
Soho Rep may disclose PII to third parties in certain circumstances, including in the following circumstances:
- We rely on third-party service vendors to perform a variety of contractual services on our behalf. To do so, we may need to share your information with them. For example, we use a third-party payment processor to facilitate ticket and donation transactions as well account registration. Soho Rep. may also rely on vendors to maintain our computer system or enable us to perform any of the actions described above. As another example, we may share your information with third-party vendors and service providers that help us with advertising and marketing, including the number of ads we serve you, quality of those ads, and other analytics
- We may share some of your information with partner theatres to provide you with information about other productions in which you may be interested.
- We may share personal information to comply with legal obligations or respond to legal process, such as search warrants and subpoenas, or a request for cooperation by a government entity.
- We may disclose your information in the unlikely event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our assets to a third party, such as in connection with a merger or in the event of a bankruptcy.
- We also may share information about you with third parties with your consent or at your direction.
If you choose to engage in public or interactive activities on the Site, you should be aware that any information you share there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these areas. You should use caution in disclosing information while participating in these areas. We are not responsible for the information you choose to submit in these public areas.
If you access third-party services, such as social media services, through the Site, these third-party services may be able to collect information about you, including information about your activity on the Site, and they may notify your connections on the third-party services about your use of the Site, in accordance with their own privacy policies.
Soho Rep does not sell your information to third parties. Soho Rep might permit third parties to collect, or disclose to those third parties, some of the information described above for some business purposes as described in this Privacy Policy, like for our own data analytics purposes. The information practices of these third parties are not covered by this Privacy Policy.
4. WHAT CHOICES ARE AVAILABLE TO USERS REGARDING COLLECTION, USE AND DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION?
If you have previously provided us with information and/or have consented to be contacted by email or other means regarding our services, such as when you registered, you may withdraw that consent by logging into your account at any time to edit your contact preferences and opt out of receiving communications by mail or email.
5. ARE COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES USED ON OUR SITE?
When you use the Site, we and our third-party advertising partners including data analytics providers, use cookies, pixel tags, local storage, and other similar technologies (collectively, “cookies”) to collect information from your browser or device. By using the Site, you consent to our use of cookies and similar technologies.

- Essential cookies – These cookies enable you to use our Site. These cookies allow you to browse our Site and use certain features. Disabling them may prevent you from using certain parts of the Site. These cookies also are designed in part to help keep our Site safe and secure.

Without these cookies, our Site may not be able to remember certain choices you’ve previously made (such as a saved country / language preference) or personalize your mobile app experience by providing you with relevant information. - Performance cookies – These cookies collect information about how you use our Site such as which pages you visit regularly. These cookies are used to provide you with a high-quality experience by doing things such as tracking page load, site response times, and error messages.
- Content / advertising cookies – These cookies gather information about your use of our Site so we may improve your experience and provide you with more relevant content and advertising. They remember that you’ve visited our Site and help us understand usage of our Site. Some of these cookies are from third parties that collect information about your use of our Site in order to provide advertisements (on our Site and elsewhere) based on your online activities (so-called “interest-based advertising”) on our Site and elsewhere online based on users’ online activities over time and across different sites, services, and devices. We do not control the privacy practices of these third parties, and their practices are not covered by this Policy.
Do-Not-Track Signals and Similar Mechanisms. Some mobile and web browsers transmit “do-not-track” signals. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted, or whether they even are aware of them. We currently do not take action in response to these signals.
6. HOW DOES SOHO REP KEEP PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION SECURE?
Soho Rep uses technical and organizational measures designed to help to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of PII provided to or collected by Soho Rep. While no security measures can be 100% secure, Soho Rep actively considers the level of risk associated with the PII it collects and stores to design and implement appropriate security measures. Please note that information collected by third parties may not have the same security protections as information you submit to us, and we are not responsible for protecting the security of such information.
PII is only accessible to a limited number of authorized Soho Rep employees and/or third-party vendors who have a need for such access as part of their work on behalf of Soho Rep to operate the business and provide the services you request.
While we take reasonable measures to maintain a secure Site, electronic communications and databases are subject to errors, tampering and breaches, and we cannot, and do not, guarantee or warrant that such events will not take place.
7. HOW LONG DO WE RETAIN PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION?
We will retain your information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes set out above, in accordance with applicable laws.
8. HOW DO WE HANDLE CHILDREN’S PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION?
We do not knowingly collect or sell any information from children, as defined by applicable law, without parental consent or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.

10. HOW CAN YOU EXERCISE YOUR PRIVACY AND DATA PROTECTION RIGHTS?
Soho Rep supports certain data subject rights for users to control collection and processing of their PII in accordance with applicable law. Upon confirmation of a user’s identity to Soho Rep’s reasonable satisfaction or as otherwise required by law, Soho Rep will assist an individual in exercising applicable data subject rights. Please note, however, that these data subject rights are not unlimited and must be balanced against other applicable rights, interests and obligations of Soho Rep and other Soho Rep users, as allowed pursuant to applicable law. Where available under local laws, the rights you may be able to exercise include access, correction, and deletion.

12. WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS PRIVACY POLICY CHANGES?
We may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we update the Privacy Policy, we will revise the “Effective Date” date above and post the new Privacy Policy. We recommend that you review the Privacy Policy each time you visit the Services to stay informed of our privacy practices.
